Version 2.0 is launched! Welcome to the all new joelg.co.uk. It may seem like I have been neglecting the website a little, but in actual fact this is what I have been developing on and off for the last few months.

This website will be where I note down anything interesting I see on or off the web, and where I write about what I've been up to in web development and programming, as well as just generally.

I am hoping to add a new article on here every week or so, and in the the first few of these articles I will write about the various techniques I have used to achieve some of the new things you can see on the website.

Amongst these features are:

Collapsable and expandable side menu sections - see the menu to the left and try clicking one of the headings.
AJAX form validation with Codeigniter and MooTools - see the comments form at the bottom of this post.
Incorporating del.icio.us and Last.fm statistics safely and effectively - see the recent bookmarks and most listened to last week menus to the left.
Effective unobtrusive spam safe display of email addresses - in use on the contact page.
Smoothscroll with MooTools - try clicking either the trackbacks or comments link below the article title.

There are so many changes and improvements to the website, but to give a few:

Fresh new design - I have completely redesigned the website whilst keeping the logo the same. I felt the previous version was too plain, and that more images and icons would improve the look and feel of the website.
New layout - with left hand side menu to accomodate menus for the increased amount of information and interesting statistics.
Increased and improved use of AJAX - all JavaScript including AJAX is unobtrusive and degrades gracefully for users without JavaScript enabled.
