About me
Hi!
I'm Joel Gascoigne, an undergraduate student studying for a Computing Systems MEng at the University of Warwick. I have a keen interest in the web and programming. In particular, I enjoy creating cross-browser standards-compliant usable websites which look good. I'm currently playing around with AJAX and other JavaScript usability enhancement techniques.
“an undergraduate student studying for a Computing Systems MEng at the University of Warwick”
I do freelance web design work as well as for Add Expertise. I am Web Services Director at Add Expertise and I continue to work with them to deliver high specification websites at reasonable prices. I am also an associate with DJWebs Web Design and do some programming work every so often. They have a great portfolio, and I maintain a professional as well as friendly relationship with them.
About the website
This website is where I write about anything I've come across on the Internet which has interested me. A lot of this is focused on web development, primarily XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, PHP, SQL, usability and accessibility.
It is a proposed end to the post-it notes which are scattered in various places on my wall/desk/monitors, and is a place for me to record any problems I come across and in the process share these with other people who might benefit. It is also somewhere for me to track and share the progress of my various projects.
How it's done
I decided to develop version 2 of joelg.co.uk after I realised people were actually visiting the website when there wasn't much content to look through. I feel version 2 has come a long way since version 1, to see the differences view the version page.
The website is powered by PHP and MySQL, developed using the CodeIgniter Rapid Application Development Framework. It is valid XHTML 1.0, uses valid CSS and all JavaScript is unobtrusive.
Thanks to…
My wonderful girlfriend Tess for taking every single photo on this website! And for always telling me the website looks great, and helping me with the colours.
